Role: Lead Designer at Ancient Wisdom Productions

Client: Cornell Computing and Information Science (Cornell CIS) and Cornell Information Science (Cornell IS)

Project: Brand Refresh, Website Refresh, Print Design

As digital technologies evolve, Cornell University has strengthened its brand foundation to better function within an increasingly versatile communication landscape.

Cornell Computing and Information Science (Cornell CIS) and its subsidiary department Cornell Information Science (Cornell IS) worked with AWP to create unique, recognizable identities that would flourish within the Cornell brand landscape.

As Lead Designer at AWP, I collaborated with both teams to refresh their print materials and websites, effectively communicating the goals of Cornell CIS and Cornell IS to a wide variety of audiences locally and across the world.

So what are Cornell CIS and Cornell IS?

Cornell CIS is neither a college nor a university department. It’s a faculty of related departments across multiple colleges and two Cornell campuses known for bold new ideas. The Cornell CIS website acts as a front door to the academic departments that power the information economy.

Cornell Information Science is one of the specialty departments that lives within the CIS ecosystem, connecting top leaders in the field of technology with the next generation of innovators.

Print Collateral

The AWP team provided comprehensive guidelines to establish the proper use of branded materials, color palette and hierarchy in a wide variety of digital and print formats. During my time as Lead Designer, I developed a new suite of educational and marketing materials to better reflect the research programs and academic offerings that had expanded since the original brand articulation.

Responsive Homepage Design

Cornell Information Science uses their website to share news, upcoming events, and accomplishments of their faculty, students, and partner brands. The homepage highlights these features and draws the attention of key audiences – those with an interest in studying at Cornell IS or forming research partnerships. The homepage elements move fluidly as screen sizes change, enabling site visitors to view content at the optimal size for any device.

I worked with the Cornell IS team to rethink the use of their brand colors, framing devices, and narrative homepage scroll to better communicate the evolved, cutting-edge innovation the department is pioneering in its field.

The final delivered project provides a solid foundation for Cornell CIS and Cornell IS to continue their mission of defining the research and educational agenda of the information age.
